Come to Independence for the FUN ... Stay for the variety
Some of the wonderful activities Independence has to offer:
Historic District
History buffs may find our Independence Historic District interesting. Listed on the National Register of Historic places in 1989, the historic district encompasses the entire downtown sector. The roughly 30-block district preserves approximately 250 homes and businesses of a prosperous riverside town of the 1880s. Between the 1890’s-1940’s Independence was dubbed the hop capital of the world. Rogue Brewing Company has recently begun using hops from the Independence region in a select number of its delectable brews.
You can obtain a map of the historic district from our Independence Heritage Museum.

Amphitheater
Upon entering the Historic Downtown District, the first attraction to catch your eye is Riverview Park. Presiding beside the scenic Willamette River, the park comes equipped with all the traditional fixings. The untraditional is an amphitheater. Completed in 2005, the Riverview Park Amphitheater is the centerpiece of Riverview Park. In 2008, a sparkling fountain was added to the Plaza Level, welcoming visitors to Independence. The amphitheater hosts numerous events including an 8 week summer movie and concert series.

Sadly Independence lacks a formidable clothing store. This will likely change once Independence Station is completed. Under construction, Independence Station is an extraordinary, ultra-high performance, 57,000 square foot mixed-use building that is powered primarily by the sun and waste vegetable oil. The building will have LEED platinum status. This is the highest award a “Green” building can achieve.
Airpark
If a personal aircraft is your preferred mode of transportation, Independence has you covered. Independence State Airport (FAA LID: 7S5) is a public-use airport located one mile northwest of the central business district. Serving as a general aviation airport, Independence also hosts a large residential airpark. This facility has two claims to fame. It is Oregon's only Public Use airport hosting an airpark and it is the only state owned airpark.
